Sorrento, Maine, located in coastal Hancock County on Waukeag Neck, is a well-known fishing and summer resort community that offers spectacular views of Bar Harbor and the mountains of Mount Desert Island to the southwest. (see Schoodic map) Sorrento was once part of the southern part of Sullivan until it separated and became incorporated on March 3, 1895. Its year 2000 census placed the year-round population at 290 with over 40% of the work force being professional. The more recent 2010 census population figure dropped to 274.
